Amos Lamar Blackshear

Amos Lamar Blackshear was born in Terrell County, Dawson, Georgia on September 2, 1956.

The family moved from Dawson, Georgia to Albany, Georgia where Amos attended Coachman Clark Elementary School. He was baptized at an early age in Albany, Georgia and rededicated his life to Christ in 1986.

Amos was fond of playing with siblings and cousins but will be best remembered for his love of homing pigeons. The pigeons would gather around and land on him in the backyard of his grandparents’ home as if he was their leader.

Amos moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey as a teen where he excelled at several sports; baseball and tennis were his favorites. Amos was an avid reader, he loved hanging out at Rutgers University, reading and learning more about black history, constitutional law and mathematics. Amos was always offering advice and lending a hand when needed. He was a great mentor to all he met.

 After Graduating from New Brunswick High School, Amos moved to Oklahoma City to attend Langston University. While attending Langston University, he decided to enlist in the United States Army where he served from 1977 to 1984. Amos was honorably discharged and retired on April 1, 1984, due to his failing health.

Amos was preceded in death by his mother Orrie Delores Blakely.

He leaves to cherish his memories four siblings Bernadine Vaughn (OKC); Alfread Blackshear (Wilmington, Delaware); Christine (Chris) Bloomer (OKC); Veronica (Terry) Blakely-Kudrna (OKC), and a host of nieces, nephews and many cousins.
