Carl Wayne Baughn, 84, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 19, 1940, in Centralia, Illinois to Ruby and Loi Baughn, Carl lived a life rich with love, adventure, and purpose.
Carl attended Marlow High School where he was known for his standout years on the football field. After high school, he proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Navy—a time that shaped much of his discipline and strength of character. Following his military service, Carl built a career in the oil field industry as a skilled Drill Operator. His remarkable entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic led him into several management roles throughout his life.
Carl and his beloved wife, Judy Baughn, shared not only a deep love but a spirit of partnership in work and life. Together, they managed Campgrounds of America (KOA) as General Managers, combining their shared love for the outdoors and hospitality.
Known for his unquenchable thirst for the open road, Carl’s heart found joy in the journey. Whether it was road-tripping from Florida to California, marveling at the Grand Canyon, wandering the caves of Carlsbad Caverns, or enjoying a peaceful afternoon of fishing at Lake Stanley Draper—no adventure was ever too big or too small for him. He cherished rodeos, and Sundays were sacred for cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and OU football with family.
Carl was a man of warmth, strength, and devotion. His proudest title was that of husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found his greatest happiness in moments spent with his loved ones—offering wisdom, sharing stories, or simply being present.
He was preceded in death by Mother Ruby Baughn, Father Loi Baughn and Brother Norman Baughn and a child lost many years ago while serving in the Navy, Baby Baughn.
Carl is survived by the love of his life, Judy Baughn, and his brother Phillip Baughn. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A special thank you is extended to all the friends and family who have surrounded Carl and his family with love and care. The family would also like to express heartfelt gratitude to OK Cremation & Funeral Home for their compassionate support during this time.
