Carol Moody

January 8, 1934 — December 3, 2025

Guthrie

Carol (Fagerquist) Moody passed away on December 3rd at Golden Age Nursing Center in Guthrie, Oklahoma with family and Mallory from Companion Care Hospice by her side. She would have celebrated 92 years on earth next month.

Carol was born on January 8th, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She proudly shared this birth date with Elvis Presley. She was given no middle name and proudly used her maiden name. Her father was Swedish and her mother was a Nelson, so she told everyone, “I’m half Swede and half Nelson!”

She graduated from Oklahoma City’s Classen High School in 1952. She then attended Oklahoma State in Stillwater but became homesick and returned to the city to attend Oklahoma City University. In March of 1955, she met her future husband, James (Jim) O. Moody Sr. on campus and after a whirlwind courtship and engagement they were married on August 20, 1955, at the church her parents founded, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (now OCU’s dance annex). Eleven months later, their oldest son, Craig, was born and his baby brother, James Jr. was born 18 months later. Both survived their teen years, thanks to Carol and Jim’s sense of humor and due diligence. Jim Sr. passed away in 2016, and Carol is now busily getting caught up with the love of her life in Heaven.

Carol was the youngest daughter of Edward and Cleo Fagerquist. Sister Greta (Fagerquist) Newsome and her brother, Edward (Sonny) all preceded her in death, as did her beloved nephews Jon Fagerquist and Mark Newsome.

Carol was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, Godmother and friend to all she met. She worked tirelessly to make a loving home for Jim and her boys, all while working in many OKC public school libraries, eventually getting her dream job as a reference librarian at the Village Library until she retired at age 80.

Carol is survived by her sons Craig and Jim Jr., their wives Jane and Debbie, her four grandchildren James (Trey) O. Moody III and wife Kristy, their children Van and Miles; Colin Moody and his wife, Brooke; Kimberly Park and her husband Mike, their children Henry and Hazel; and Coral Moody. Also, mourning her passing are her beloved nephews David Newsome and Bill Newsome and nieces Jana Rael and Kim McPhail.

Carol loved old movies, books, music and magazines. She loved visiting her family and friends in northern New Mexico. She was our family historian, photographer, cheerleader, and practical joker. She loved singing in the church choir (The Messiah), and she especially loved Christmas and Christmas movies and music (A Charlie Brown Christmas). She wasn’t afraid to find ways to connect to astonished strangers. Carol also loved researching trivia with Google, keeping up with friends on Facebook, and earning Solitaire wins on her computer every day.

Please join the family for a reception and viewing this Sunday, December 14th at 1pm followed by a service at 2pm. Brent Jones with OK Cremation and Funeral Home, 2415 N. Walnut Ave., Oklahoma City, OK is conducting the service. She will be interred with her husband Jim at the Fort Sill National Veterans Cemetery in Elgin, OK with a private ceremony.
