Charles Alvin Covel, longtime Shawnee area resident, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at his residence with his granddaughter and family members by his side.

Charles was born March 11, 1941 in Oklahoma City to parents Aaron C. and Erma (Young) Covel. Charles attended Tecumseh High School. After high school, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy on May 26, 1960 and served his country for over four years. He received an honorable discharge on June 20, 1964.

He married Judy Brock of Macomb, Oklahoma and to this union were three daughters and one son.

Charles enjoyed over 40 years of trucking while raising his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wayne Covel; two sisters, LaVonna Jo Covel and Mildred Gokey and one great-granddaughter. Jadyn Faith Carnes.

Charles is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Cinda Covel of Arcadia, Lori and Bryan Clemens of Shawnee and Mary and Jay Benton of Shawnee; son, Charles A. Covel of Macomb; sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn Covel of Oklahoma City, Mary Covel of Choctaw and Nancy and Jay McDonald of Nunn, CO; brothers and sisters-in- law, Bob Covel of Choctaw, Cecil and Linnie Covel of Lindsay, OK and Dean and Mary Covel of Norman; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of other extended family and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Sharon Baptist Church in Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of OK Cremation and Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
