Charles “Charlie” Curtis Waddle, longtime Oklahoma City resident, passed away September 2, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 99 years young.
Charlie was born April 14, 1923 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Charles Asbury Waddle and Christina Walters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy Jacoway Waddle; sister, Francis Waddle Lawson and her husband Gerald; his daughter, Elizabeth Diane Waddle and a stepson, Eric Leroy Holm.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Donna Holm-Waddle, his son, Charles Waddle, Jr. and his wife Linda; stepdaughter, Tanya McCormick and her husband Howard and stepdaughter, Sonya Witt and her husband Robert. With the blending of our families, he had 13 grandchildren, Charles Curtis III, Jeff, David, Nancy, Amie, Melanie, Juli, Molly, Teri, Kim, Robbie and Rory. He just kept being blessed as he had a total of 26 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Alexis, Anna, Xavier, Michael, Sydney, Riley, Keira, Cameron, Shelby, Allison, Lydia, Dorothy, Audrey, Riley, Gwen, Chloe, Callie, Eli, Emme, Noah, Reece, Dawson, Adam, Gunnar and Kymber and one on the way. Last but not least, two great-great-grandchildren, Legacy and Liam.
Charlie was in the Army Air Force from December 10, 1942 to January 6, 1946 during World War II as a Military Munitions Worker, Sharpshooter and Airplane Armorer. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Services Stars.
Charlie loved family, the Lord and life and always had a smile. The smile was there whether you were a family member, friend or stranger. His smile was contagious. Just seeing it made you smile.
