Clarence Wade Payne, 83, of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family. Born on March 13, 1942, in Yale, Oklahoma, to the late Raymond Thomas Payne and Edna Arizona (Brown) Payne, he lived a life defined by resilience and known stubbornness.
Clarence’s early years included a stint in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for two and a half years. After leaving the Air Force, Clarence embarked on a diverse career. He worked for Burlington Railway in Kansas City, Missouri; dedicated 24 years to Transcon Lines, contributed his talents at Ceco Door, applied his skills in private security, and later worked for his son-in-law.
Clarence was a gifted guitarist who filled rooms with heartfelt music. He was a Facebook superstar, stirring up debates and earning himself a badge of honor with each ban for his bold opinions. He absolutely loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved his silly personality and will always remember him fondly. He was a great storyteller, always retelling the same tales and happily chatting about himself.
Clarence is survived by his four daughters: Wendy Payne of Moore, OK; Connie Payne of Blanchard, OK; Julie Payne and Janet Payne of Oklahoma City, OK. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Michael Payne of Oklahoma City; Ashley Platt, Danielle Platt, and Corey Williamson of Oklahoma City; Austin Payne, Hunter, Dallas, and London Thephachanh of Bethany, OK; Miranda Beach of Topeka, KS and Myriah Beach of Oklahoma City, OK; and Mary Ellen Duree of Moore, OK. He leaves behind 10 cherished great-grandchildren, and he was a grandpa to all. He is also survived by his siblings, Dixie McNutt of Macomb, OK, and Nyla Jo Watkins of Shawnee, OK; his ex-wife, Patty Payne; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brothers Tommy Payne, Virgil Payne, and Philip Payne, as well as his sister Cheryl Ridings Payne.
Clarence’s life was enriched by memorable moments, an unyielding work ethic, and a readiness to challenge convention. His passion for music and the laughter he sparked—from his dedicated workdays to his playful mischief online—will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
