Clyde Edward Matthews was born February 19, 1941 in Ringling Oklahoma to Ola and Arthur Matthews. The family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in the early 50’s and Clyde resided there until his death on February 4, 2021. Clyde graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 1959 and joined the US Army in April 1960, where he served most of his time in Germany. Shortly after his return in April 1963 to the states he met the love of his life Marsha Casto. The two were married in July 1964 and lived in Edmond for most of their married life. Clyde was a plumber by trade and served the Edmond public for more than 40 years. Clyde was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping with Marsha and their many friends.
Clyde is survived by his wife Marsha Matthews, Brothers Arthur “Sonny” Matthews, Don Matthews and Johnny Matthews. His three daughters and their husbands; Stephanie and Kenneth Lawson of Guthrie, Shawna and Joe Bailey and Megan and Tyler Ashby both of Edmond Oklahoma. Nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, eleven nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Clyde was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Haiduk.
There will be a celebration of Clyde’s life Monday February 8, 2021 at 5:30pm at his church home Seward Road Baptist Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Please come and share a “Clyde” story (you know you have one) social distancing will be encouraged and mask will be available. If you are unable to attend the event in person, it will be live streamed on Seward Road’s face book page. In lieu of flowers the family asked that a donation be made the church.
