Curtis "Verl" Mathews passed away on May 16, 2026, at SSM St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City after a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure. He was born on September 10, 1958, in Oklahoma City, OK to Curtis Dean Mathews & Peggy Jane (Heath) Mathews. He attended McLoud High School where he graduated in 1976. Verl worked as a welder and in construction most of his life. He enjoyed his fast vehicles, water sports, camping, his cattle, his pet “Deuce” and spending time with his family.
Verl is survived by sister Alicia Gilman and her husband Mark; sister Janie Means and her husband Willard; nephews Matthew Green, Bradley Means and wife June.
He also helped raise three children, John Lofton, T.J. Lofton and Christie Ramsey from a previous wife which included 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Verl is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
A viewing for Verl will be on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM at OK Cremation & Funeral Home, 2415 N. Walnut Ave., Oklahoma City.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Bowlegs Assembly of God in Bowlegs, OK with Pastor Willie Williams officiating.
Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens located on US-270 in Seminole, OK.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
