Derrick Allen Ramey was born on September 16, 1965, to the union of YZ, and Joyce Ramey in Honolulu, Hawaii. Derrick was the adorned only child of his mother and was later gifted one sister, Candice, and one brother, Mike, from his father YZ.
Derrick accepted Christ at an early age and centered his life from his foundation, the teachings of the word. Derrick received his formal education at the University of Science and Arts, where he served as a Paul Hanson Coach. In the role of coach Derrick’s leadership abilities were highlighted as he became mentor, and a positive influence on many. He developed a lifelong love of sports and became recognized as the team lead by his mentor and coach, Mr. Brisco.
Coach Brisco encourage the use of Derrick’s talents and recruited him to play for the state of Oklahoma. Derrick had a notable ability to address complex challenges in new and innovative ways. He focused on bringing out the best in his team by guiding them through goals and obstacles.
This ability prepared him for what would be his greatest accomplishment. Derrick met and married his wife, Latasha, following a long courtship. To this union was born three children, two girls, Iman & Ayanna, and one boy, Derrick Jr. Derrick, completed the Ramey family that begin with his beloved first born daughter, Shawna.
He built his family from the very best of himself. The ultimate provider and protector. Derrick led his family in the standard of which he was known, guiding them through this game of life until God claimed, “Well done!”
That claim from the Lord came on May 28th, 2022. Derrick’s strengths were needed to lead from above. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Latasha Poindexter Ramey of OKC, his four children Shawna, Iman, Ayanna, and Derrick Jr., grandchild Za’rri, brother Mike, sister Candice, sister in-laws, Natasha (Anthony) of Durant & Julia, niece Naleisha, beloved mother in-law Mrs. Poindexter, father in-law Prinson Poindexter, the beloved Ohio, New York, & St. Thomas family, and a host of other relatives & friends.
