Ernest L. Palinkas, Sr., longtime resident of Shawnee, OK, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2022 at the Norman Veterans Center in Norman, OK at the age of 98.
Ernest was born October 2, 1923 in Norwalk, Conn. To James and Anna (Demko) Palinkas. Mr. Palinkas served in the US Army during WW II from December 1942 to January 1946. He served all of his time during the war in the European theater, serving in France, England and Belgium.
Mr. Palinkas was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Marcella (Sherman) Palinkas, who died on February 26, 2016, at the age of 90.
Survivors include his six children, Susan Robinson of Naugatuck, CT; Linda Rowland of Woodbury, CT; James Palinkas of Shawnee, OK; Ernest Palinkas, Jr., of New Milford, CT; Edward Palinkas of Oakville, CT and Nancy Palinkas of Shawnee, OK, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at a future date to be determined at St. John’s Cemetery in Norwalk, Connecticut, where Mr. Palinkas’ remains will be buried next to the remains of his wife, Marcella.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the Veterans Administration, in general, and the Norman Veterans Center, in particular, for the great care they provided for Mr. Palinkas. After becoming physically disabled, Mr. Palinkas voluntarily resided in the Norman Veterans Center for the last year of his life, where he received great and attentive care.
