Gary Wayne Haley

October 22, 1951 — February 13, 2022

Oklahoma City

Gary Wayne Haley left his earthly body to walk with our beloved Jesus Christ on February 13, 2022 at the age of 70. He was born on October 22, 1951 in Oklahoma City, OK to Martha Bell (Wooten) and JW Haley, who loved and spoiled him rotten.

He was preceded in death by his father JW Haley; mother Martha Belle Rankin (Wooten); step-father Homer Rankin; his beloved wife Sherry Diana Haley and his youngest son Kevin Haley.

Gary is survived by daughter Kimberly Bassett Haley (Brig Gen Chad) Raduege of Oklahoma City, OK; son Chris Haley of Melbourne, FL; step-son Bryon Davis of Oklahoma City, OK; sister Ramona (Dan) Snow of Kingston, OK. Also survived by grandchildren: Michael (Lisa) Bassett of Hann-Munden, Germany; Zachary Raduege (“Mr. President”) of Woodbridge, VA; Eva Haley of Melbourne, FL; Ashlynn, Cason and Jaren Haley of Sheridan, WY; nephew Jason (Heather) Snow of Sparta, MO; niece Kelly (James) McCampbell of McLoud, OK; 2 great nephews, 2 great nieces.

Gary and his sister, Ramona, attended Crooked Oak School from K-12 where he was in the band and played football before graduating in 1969. He grew up as a member of Victory Baptist Church where he was baptized at the age of 10. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1971 and was stationed at Camp Legeune, North Carolina as a Field Radio Operator during the Vietnam War.

After his Marine Corps service, he returned to Oklahoma where he had his first child, Kimberly in 1974 followed by Chris (1979) and Kevin (1980).  He met the love of his life, Sherry Diana (Golden), and they were married for almost 29 years until her tragic passing in 2012.

Early in his career he owned and operated, ‘A Better Fence Company’, out of Lawton, OK until he found his place as a Maintenance Electrician at Tinker Air Force Base in 1985. He also proudly worked at Allen-Bradley and Ma-Cor Inc., but was forced to medically retire in 1990.

Gary loved spending time with his family, especially camping and fishing (when he could catch something)!  He enjoyed several hobbies -- playing guitar and singing, which he was very good at (and proudly passed that talent on to his grandson, Michael). He also loved carving, painting and creating leatherworks that he enjoyed giving as gifts to friends and family. He absolutely loved going to the gym and “getting a good sweat on” at least once a day, sometimes twice, and it became a nice social outlet where he made several great friends. He also found great joy in being stubborn and giving everyone he knew a good hassle! But above all, what he loved most in his latter years, was his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was very proud of his 60-year membership at Victory Baptist church, where he had served as an Elder. Although driving long distances became an issue towards the end of his life, Victory was and will always be where his heart resides…as well as with each person who loved and cherished him. He is now at peace but will be forever loved and missed.
