Gester Wilson "G.W." Shuskey,73, left this world on November 18th surrounded by his family.
He was born December 14,1947 in Siler City, North Carolina. G.W. graduated from Person High School in Roxboro, North Carolina. He then went on to attend Duke University before serving time in the United States Army. G.W. spent the majority of his career taking care of and advocating for those with mental health needs. He owned a residential care facility in Oklahoma, where he took great care of all who were entrusted to him. He sold his business and retired. It was only a short time before he became restless and began working for Carter Health Care in their DME department. G.W. was a lover of music and an avid horse racing enthusiast. One of his favorite pastimes was attending the races at Remington Park. At one time G.W. owned his own horse that he raced at Remington. He was known for always being witty and cutting up, with an infectious laugh that could make anyone smile.
G.W. is preceded in death by his parents Gester and Hazel Shuskey, his daughter Jobeina Shuskey and his sister Fannie Mae May.
He is survived by Sharon Woodside, his daughter Geina Tharp and her husband Jeremy, his granddaughter Devan Conley, her son Wilder Clark and his sister Shirley Lee Pease. He leaves behind numerous other family members and friends.
A private service will be held with the family and plans for his ashes to be spread at a later date.
