James "Jim" Allen Young

August 27, 1957 — December 2, 2025

James Allen Young – better known as Jim or Jimmy to his family and friends, age 68, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Avonlea Cottage in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Jim was born in Danville, Illinois August 27, 1957, to James R. “J.R.” and Mary Loretta (Stokes) Young of Perrysville, Indiana. He attended Highland Elementary School and North Vermillion High School where he made lifelong friends. Beginning at a very young age, Jim was made to work hard every day and taught that there was no time for fun or playing. No doubt Jim had a rough life growing up, something he didn’t talk about with too many people. He moved to Georgetown, Illinois at the age of 17, purchasing his 1st home and remaining there for over 50 years. He loved to call his sisters daily and talk for hours sometimes multiple times a day to just chat. He enjoyed living in Illinois all those years until his health forced him to move to Seminole, Oklahoma to be closer with family to help take care of him.

Jim was referred to as “the best damn diesel mechanic anywhere around” and others said he “was like a box of chocolates, never knew what to expect.” He loved the farm, was not afraid of the long hours or hard work. He enjoyed plowing the fields in the spring and fall, driving trucks and hauling in the harvest. Jim worked for many years farming and driving trucks for his dad at J.R. Young Trucking & Farms, then many years for Walker Farms, Hyster’s and Clements Equipment.

He is preceded in death by his father James “J.R.” Young, mother Mary Loretta Stokes, brother Robert “Bobby” Young, sister Deborah “Debbie” Young, his grandparents Harold and Sarah (Cromwell) Young, Thomas and Velma (Moorer) Stokes, Aunt Ann and Ronnie Hanna, Aunt Christine and Gene Duda, Uncle Leroy and Sharon Stokes.

He is survived by his siblings Cheryl Young and David Bernard of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Susan and Wes Womack of Seminole, Oklahoma; John and Diana Young of Tecumseh, Oklahoma and Pamela Elliott and Kenny of Bowlegs, Oklahoma. Nephews and Nieces – Ricky Morgan, Tabitha Morgan, Sarah Morgan, Wesley Ryan Womack, Emily Womack, Matthew Young and Jessica Taylor, Jeremy Elliott and Kendra McLaughlin. Cousins Mike Hanna, Tom Hanna, Peggy Hanna and Linda Pohar. Special friends John “J.B.” Bryant, John Skimehorn, Phyllis Fraizer, Darrin Holycross, Roxie Sager, Stephen and Shane Skimehorn, staff at Angie’s Country Kitchen in Cayuga, Indiana and many other school friends.

Special thanks to all the staff of Avonlea Cottage of Seminole, Oklahoma; Heartland Hospice of Shawnee, Oklahoma to Amber, Dana, Kim and Miriah; Brent with OK Cremation and Funeral Home to each of you for all your love and care on Jim’s final journey home.
