John Michael Redd was born on November 18th, 1944, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Alfred B. Redd and Ophelia Beatrice (Blackmon) Redd. He passed away peacefully in Oklahoma City on March 1st, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and his niece, Tisha Flick.

Michael grew up in Elk City, Oklahoma, where he attended Merritt Public Schools. During high school, he was actively involved in Future Farmers of America and served as the FFA president before graduating in 1963. Following graduation, Michael joined the Army and served in the 45th Infantry Division. Although his military career was short, his pride in his country was long-lasting.

After his military service, Michael built a successful career in the oil and gas industry, where he was known for his exceptional skills as a mud logger. He had a love for all things geology and rocks, and was an avid reader, always eager to learn and understand the world around him.

In 1982, Michael married Gail (Seikel) Givens in Oklahoma City. Together, they had their daughter, Kelsey (Redd) McManus, and son Austin Redd. Michael was also a proud grandfather, lovingly known as “Gramps”, to his three grandsons, Carter McManus, Lincoln Redd, and Barrett McManus.

While Michael was a proud patriot and found fulfillment in his successful career, his family brought him the greatest joy in life. His grandsons held a particularly cherished place in his heart. When we gathered together, you could always find Gramps near his boys, watching them play with the biggest smile on his face. Even now, in the ache of your absence, we will still know where to find you.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Redd and Ophelia “Bea” Redd; his brother, Ron Redd; his three sisters, Linda Gail Redd, Bobbie June Allison, and Pat Sharp; his infant son, John Michael Redd; and his niece, Sirena Hedrick.

He is survived by his brothers, Larry Redd and Joe Redd; his daughter, Kelsey (Redd) McManus and husband, Chad McManus; his son, Austin Redd, and wife, Hannah Redd; his grandsons, Carter McManus, Lincoln Redd, and Barrett McManus; and his many nieces and nephews.

Michael will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
