Judy Kay Swafford

Judy Swafford of Oklahoma City passed away August 20,2026 after a brave but brief battle with cancer.

Judy loved reading and the English language. Shortly after graduating from NWOSU, she settled in OKC. While teaching English and journalism at Northeast High School, she earned her master's degree from Central State. She later served as adjunct faculty at several local colleges. Many of her students became lifelong friends.

Her kindness drew people in. She was quick to laugh or smile, often the smartest person in the room – but never made you feel like you were anything less than wonderful. Her absence leaves a tremendous gap.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Cheri and husband Charlie; her grandchildren, Kash and wife Julie, M.J., Evan and husband Marcus, Audrey and Henry; her nephew Michael; her sister-in-law, Beth and her longtime partner Alfred. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Pearl, her brother Jim and her daughter Jennifer.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept 13.
