Julius Francis Zapponi

September 20, 1925 — August 16, 2018

Julius “Jerry” Zapponi, former Grove area resident, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Oklahoma City at the age of 92.

He was born September 20, 1925 in Proctor, Vermont to Julius Adamaro and Anita (Ghio) Zapponi.

Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy on April 3, 1944 and served on the USS Bennington CV-20 during World War II. He received an honorable discharge on May 6, 1946.

He married Marilyn Kay (George) on November 16, 1970 in Carson City, Nevada.

Jerry worked in data processing for Raytheon in Boston, MA and Aerojet Corporation in Sacramento, CA. In his later years, he owned and operated a restaurant in Incline Village, NV.

Jerry is survived by his wife Marilyn of the home; two step-daughters, Joni Stevens and husband Craig of Rolla, MO and Barbara Jes Duffield of Nashville, TN; six step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including special nephews Frederick J. Zapponi and wife Mary and Robert J. Zapponi, Jr and his wife Lisa and a host of other family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Anita Zapponi; one step-son, Dr. Jay Duffield and nine brothers and sisters.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of OK Cremation and Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
