Maevis Jean Spoor-Gordley, longtime Midwest City resident, passed away May 4, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 78.

She was born February 23, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to Doyle Lee Lake and Mary Francis Evans.

Maevis lived most of her life in Oklahoma. However, she moved to Florida to be close to her mother and sister, returning to Oklahoma in 2006 to be near her children.

Maevis was warm and friendly, had an adventurous spirit and a love of learning.  Her sense of humor and laugh were contagious.  There was absolutely nothing she wouldn’t do for her children, family and friends.  She loved nature, gardening, the beach, animals, old movies, music, museums and history.

She is survived by her sister, Virginia Walsh and husband Jack of Florida; two brothers, Gary Parmelee, and his wife Kathy of Illinois and Kenny Parmelee and his wife Wendy of Pennsylvania; two sons, Michael Spoor of Granite, OK and David Spoor of Midwest City, OK; two daughters, Susan Barber, and her husband Bill of Norman, OK and Mary Wylie and her husband Robert of Jones, OK; grandchildren, Joseph Wylie, Michael Wylie, Robert Wylie, Marcy Shubert, and Jessamine Spoor and a host of other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father,  Doyle Lee Lake; stepfather, Kenneth E Parmelee; mother, Mary Francis Evans-Parmelee and two brothers, Teddy Lake and Larry Lake.

Her children and niece, Ann, were with her during her lengthy stay in the hospital.  Her battle with lung disease is now over and she is celebrating her new life with Jesus in heaven.

She will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved her, especially her children.

Arrangements are under the direction of OK Cremation and Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
