Mark Lee Newsome

Mark grew up in Oklahoma City, attending Ridgeview Elementary, Hoover Junior High, and graduating from John Marshall High School. He began his lifelong career in the Food and Beverage industry, working with local restauranteur Paul Seikel, who mentored Mark as he expanded the Subway Restaurant business into Pearl’s Seafood locations in surrounding markets. He went on to work for the Olive Garden chain where his specialty was opening new locations, traveling across the country, before ending up as Food and Beverage Manager at Ceaser’s Palace in Las Vegas. Mark spent 20 years in Oregon moving to Bend as Mt. Bachelor’s Food and Beverage Manager before moving to Cannon Beach to retire. There, he did volunteer work, preparing meals and serving veterans, and occasional consulting in the restaurant business. He was an avid golfer, skier, long distance runner and musician. He remained a Sooner fan wherever he resided. 

Mark was preceded in death by his Father Paul D Newsome and Mother Greta Newsome. Mark is survived by his brothers, David (wife Amy) and Bill. Mark was a beloved uncle to Sally, Stell, Sandy, Claire, Eloise, Chris, Jeff and their families. He remained close to his many cousins throughout his life. Mark loved animals and was dad to Marylyn (famous in Cannon Beach) and Duke. 

Mark had a real love of life with a sense of humor that always entertained his family, friends, coworkers and employees. He was skillful at managing people and getting the best out of those around him while sharing his wisdom on how to run a successful hospitality business. 

Mark’s ashes will be interned at Rose Hill Crematory Garden next to his Mother and Father in Oklahoma City on Saturday September 27th followed by a Celebration of Life at the Waterford Renaissance Hotel 6300 Waterford Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73118 at 2pm where family and friends are invited to attend.
