Marlin Thomas

Marlin Thomas, age 80, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Marlin was born August 11, 1946, in Malden, Missouri, to the late Dean and Alice Thomas, joining four sisters and two brothers. He graduated from Kennett High School in 1964 and attended Southwestern Bible College (now Southwestern Christian University). He briefly served in the United States Army before returning to Oklahoma City, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business and sociology and a master's degree in criminology. He built a fulfilling career as a probation and parole officer for the State of Oklahoma. After retiring, he taught part time at Rose State College and later drove a bus for Mid-Del Public Schools, which gave him extra hours with his grandchildren.

Marlin was known for his love of piano, guitar, and fishing, but his favorite pastime was messin' and gommin' (his words for snacking and chatting) at gatherings and reunions with the greatest love of his life: his family. He served the Lord faithfully with a generous spirit and an easy sense of humor, and he pursued peace with his neighbors, friends, and loved ones.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; his children, Delanie (Rex) Barrett and Justin (Ashley Atchison) Thomas; his grandchildren, Beaux (Callie) Barrett and Estella Barrett; his sister, Norma (Douglas) Bell; and a host of adoring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Virginia Dement, Budde Thomas, Arlan Thomas, Leona Castle, and Joyce White.
