Michael Leigh Ransom

July 23, 1948 — September 12, 2016

Michael Leigh Ransom, longtime Oklahoma City resident, passed away on the 12th of September at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 68.  He was born to Robert and June (LaBounty) Ransom on July 23, 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa.  As a young boy, Michael and his family moved from Iowa to Oklahoma where he would eventually graduate from Grant High School in 1966.  After attending high school, Michael would go on to become a proud service member in the United States Army.  He was both Airborne and an Army Ranger during his military career and proudly served two tours in Vietnam which earned him a Silver Star, Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

Michael attended the University of Oklahoma and later graduated from Central State University with a BA Degree in Accounting and served as an accountant for many years. He later went to work for the US Postal Service where we worked for 25 years.

Michael loved reading as well as watching movies and television shows that had anything to do with History, the military and he loved westerns. He also loved camping and hiking with his boys and was a huge sports fan. Michael officiated and umpired ballgames for over 20 years in the surrounding metro area. He even had the honor of traveling to different places such as Mississippi, Colorado, and Utah to umpire ball games. Michael enjoyed coaching as well and had the pleasure of coaching his son’s soccer team.

Michael married Beverly L. (Montgomery) on February 17, 1973 in Oklahoma City and she survives him of the home. He is also survived by his children, Heather Ransom and her fiancé Kyle Rainer of Edmond, Sean Ransom of Tooele, Utah, Ryan Ransom of Oklahoma City, Kyle Ransom of Jackson, WY and Chad Ransom and wife Samantha of Norman; grandchildren, Dakota and Baylee McCornack, McClain McCornack, Camryn McCornack, Brenden Ransom, Kamdyn Ransom and Rylan Ransom; brother and sisters, Debbie Nelson-McMillan of Sapulpa, Mark Ransom of Edmond and Gina Nicholson of Yukon and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and June Ransom.
