Myrna Loy Smallwood

Myrna Loy Smallwood, of Oklahoma City, passed from this life on September 25, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on July 21, 1937, in Wayne, Oklahoma, to Linna Mae Varela. Myrna was a sweet and gentle soul with a servant’s heart. Soft-spoken, kind, and incredibly giving, she was the type of person who would give someone her very last and throughout her life, she did just that many times. No matter what life brought her way, Myrna had an incredible ability to adapt. She faced challenges with quiet strength and rarely, if ever, complained. 

Myrna enjoyed the simple things that made life beautiful. She loved crocheting, reading books, painting her nails, and spending time with her beloved dog, Scrappy. She also had an incredible green thumb that seemed almost God-given; plants simply flourished in her care.

 And anyone who ever rode in Myrna’s car knew one thing for certain; she wasn’t going anywhere until everyone had their seatbelt on! It was one of those little things about her that those who loved her will always remember with a smile. 

Before dementia and Alzheimer’s began to change parts of her life, Myrna had a wonderfully playful side. She enjoyed making others laugh and could be silly and lighthearted. As her great-granddaughter so lovingly described her, Myrna was simply “whimsical.”

As the years went on and dementia and Alzheimer’s took more of a hold, Myrna found joy in coloring and, most importantly, simply being with the people she loved. She truly cherished spending time with her grandchildren and loved ones. She didn’t need anything extravagant being included, spending time together, and simply being a part of someone’s day meant so much to her. 

Myrna was a special woman whose gentle spirit touched the lives of all who crossed her path. Her kindness, strength, generosity, playful spirit, and sweet nature will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her. 

Myrna leaves behind many cherished memories that will continue to live on through her family, friends, and loved ones. 

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held close in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
