Nelida Oquendo

Mrs. Nelida Oquendo (Nelly), of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the age of 79.

Nelly was born to parents Eleutatario and Matilda Burgos on April 29, 1938 in Coamo, PR. She grew up in Puerto Rico With her siblings Gloria, Aida, Miguel, Enrique, and Chave.

She later moved to Buffalo, New York to have her first 3 of 6 children, Carmen, Nelly, and Armando.

Nelly later moved back to Puerto Rico where she had Ilieana, Maria, and Jesus.

In 1978 Nelly settled with her husband and youngest three children in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Nelly worked as a factory worker in Westfield, New Jersey until her youngest child left home.

She later moved to Orlando, Florida to be with her sister, Chave and their family.  Nelly was also just a small walk away from her family and was accompanied by her sweet dog Sweetie during that time.

Nelly retired in 2003 from Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando where she had been working as a custodian.  Between 2004-2009 she had lived with all three of her youngest children settling in with Jesus in Oklahoma until her passing.

Nelly is survived by her daughters Carmen, Nelly, Ilieana, and Maria and her sons Armando and Jesus.  Nelly is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 10:30 am at Saint Ann's Home Chapel in Oklahoma City.
