Opal Dimples Bryant

On Monday November 14, 1938, in Depew, Oklahoma the sun rose on the life of Opal Dimples Bryant, born by a midwife and as a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation “Este Mvskokvike” to the union of Emmett Oscar Bryant (Dimp) and Zelma Fleming-Bryant in Bristow, Oklahoma. Miss Bryant attended Page-Woodson and Douglas High School. She graduated from Douglas High School with the Class of 1957. Miss Bryant attended Oscar Rose Jr. College, in Midwest City, Oklahoma and received an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development.

In the Mid-1970s and early 1980s, Miss Bryant worked for the City-County Head Start Center under the Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City. Miss Bryant would later be employed by the Oklahoma City Public Schools District, serving in the position of Special Education Assistant for children with special needs at Capitol Hill Fifth Year School. During her career, she received various Certificate of Appreciation awards for her notable contributions and recognition for her hard work and dedication to the Capitol Hill Fifth Grade Center. She retired from the Oklahoma City Public School system at the age of 79.

Known to her children as “Dimples” Miss Bryant always greeted everyone she met with her beautiful dimples and smile. She was and will always be an inspiration to not only her children but to everyone she came into contact with. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, arts and crafts, sports, particularly football, figure skating, and gymnastics. But her greatest enjoyment was going to the Casino! She is deeply loved by her family and will be truly missed.

The sun set on the life of Miss Opal Dimples Bryant on Monday June 24, 2026, at the age of 87, when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. Preceding her in death; her beloved mother and father Mr. & Mrs. Emmitt Oscar and Zelma Fleming-Bryant; step-father Fortune Anthony Johnson; great-grand son Nathanael Marshall Duffey; brother Dorsey Johnson; son Phillip Dandrea Bryant; first granddaughter Zeporia Denise LaShae Jackson; daughter Janice Faye Bryant; paternal grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Emmett J. Bryant and Tabitha Winn-Bryant; maternal grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Whit Fleming and Nettie Killens-Fleming.

Those left to cherish her memories; four children: Robert James Brison (Sherry), Dr. Zeldra Marie Bryant, Patricia Ann Bryant, and Anthony Ray Bryant all of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, James Cornelius Lewis and Kelley Tenille Lewis; Desiree Brison; Zesmond Maurice White all of Oklahoma City; Shareka Renee Duffey, Coleen, Texas; and Z’Quita Antwinnette Woodard of Del City, Oklahoma. 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
