Sandra Jane "Janie" (May) Mize

Sandra Jane “Janie” (May) Mize, long time Earlsboro resident, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 77.

Janie was born September 29, 1948 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to A. J. “Buster” and Flossie P. (Pruitt) May. She graduated from Chico High School in Chico, Texas in 1967. Janie married Charles “Wayne” Mize on May 21, 1966 at the First Baptist Church in Earlsboro, Oklahoma.

Janie worked at Herman’s Pig Stand in Seminole, Oklahoma as a carhop and waitress during high school. She began cleaning churches when the boys were young at Earlsboro First Baptist Church and the Church of Christ at Tecumseh. Later, she worked at Earlsboro High School as a janitor and cafeteria worker for 18 years. Janie also worked at Strother Schools for a time. She also served on the Earlsboro School Board.

Janie was an active member of Earlsboro Baptist Church.

Janie had a special bond with her sisters. Every year they would plan a “sister trip” and she always looked forward to them. Janie also loved spending time with her grandchildren. One of Janie's favorite passions was crafting. She also was known for her decorating and cooking talents.

Surviving Janie are her husband, Wayne Mize of the home; four sons, David Mize and wife Rhonda of Springer, OK, Robert Mize and wife Lori of Shawnee, Darren Mize and wife Nancy of Pink, OK, and Roger Mize and his love Maria of Edmond, OK; her grandchildren, Jakki Melton, Dalton Mize, Kayleigh Kidd, Colton Mize, Kaitlyn Deardorff, Cody Hale, Payton Mize, Caleb Madden, Jocelyn Rogers, Colton Bates, Ryan Rogers, Checotah Mize, Aly Mize, Amelia Mize; seven great grandchildren, Bentley, Jaxon, Paisleigh, Kash, Jaselyn, Saige, and Payton Jay; sisters, Claudetta Tapley, Ladonna Nutter, Jeanie Jones and husband Gerald and Mary Brawdy and husband Ron; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Devoe Maye, Roger May & Jerry May, and four sisters, Barbara Whittern, Shirley Osborn, Judy Collier and Obie Osborn.

Funeral services for Janie will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Earlsboro School Auditorium with Rev. Chuck Utsler and Rev. Mark Streetman officiating. A viewing will take place before the services at 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the school auditorium.

Serving as pallbearers will be Payton Mize, Dalton Mize, Colton Mize, Caleb Madden, Pete Dailey and Vincent Dailey. Honorary bearers will be Jeremy Melton, Danny Johnson, John Starkey, Jeff Osborn, Randy Osborn and Jeff Mize.

Burial will follow at Little Cemetery in Seminole.
