Sergio Gallegos

May 8, 1939 — February 16, 2015

Mr. Sergio Gallegos passed away Monday February 16th 2015 he was born on May 8th 1939 in Mexico City in the Colonia Morelos in the Barrio of Tepito and was the son of Marciano Gallegos and Guadalupe Osorio.

He was born into poverty but at the tender age of 8 years old he decided that he would not be bound by destiny but rather that he would create his own story. At 8 years old he began selling Chiclets on the Streets of Mexico City to help provide economically for his mother and siblings and at the age of 15 he was going to join a merchant marine boat and seek fortune. His father stopped him and asked him what it would take for him to stay put and he responded that he wanted to be a jeweler. He did this because among the people he considered successful was his Uncle in law Vicente Vallejo and he wanted to be as successful as his uncle. His uncle took him in as an apprentice and Sergio became one of the best Diamond Setters in the United States and Mexico.

It was that talent that brought him as an immigrant to work in the United States. He worked for prestigious jewelry stores such as Cartier, Tiffany’s and Samuel Gordon Jewelers.

It was his last employment at Samuel Gordon’s that provided him the opportunity to immigrate himself and his family to the great state of Oklahoma.

Mr. Gallegos valued education and saw that asset as a gateway to achieve success.  He wanted for his children to get an associates degree and beyond. As a result of his motivation one obtained an associate degree, one obtained an executive management certificate, two obtained a master’s four obtained bachelor’s degrees and one obtained a Juris Doctorate.

He is survived by his Wife Guillermina Gallegos, his Children and his many wonderful grandkids.

May he rest in peace and in eternal glory.

Services are under the direction of OK Cremation and Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
