Velda B. Hendricks

May 20, 1932 — September 15, 2024

Oklahoma City

Velda B. Hendricks was born on May 20, 1932, to Richard H. Butts and Elma E. (Patterson) Butts at Shattuck. Oklahoma. On September 15, 2024, at about 3:15 PM in the afternoon in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma she passed beyond that glass through which we can bu see darkly as described in Corinthians. She was preceded in death by both parents; her stepfather, J. R. "Pop" Reed; her son Barth R. Fleming; one brother, Jerry R. Reed: her sister, Cora Lea (Reed) Johnson, her husband. Roy S. Hendricks; and her niece, Vicki (Reed) McCall. She is survived by her son, Steven W. Fleming; and her sister-in-law LaDonna; and her brother-in-law John M. Johnson; as well as two nieces and five nephews and their families, (as well as her best friend, advisor and Trustee, Clifford W. Brown).

Velda was employed by Hudgins, Thompson and Ball (later known as HTB, Inc.), Architects/Engineers, from 1957 until 1991. She particularly enjoyed her many years in the HTB Business Office, where she made many friendships that endured even after she decided to leave HTB and see what else she might want to do "when she grew up." She went from HTB to the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) in Oklahoma City, where she worked until her retirement in 1999.

Velda was a great planner and would research places she and her family would love visiting. So, following retirement, Velda especially enjoyed traveling, particularly the annual "cousins trips" with her cousins and siblings, most of which were made by car because she wanted to see as much of the USA as she could and she loved the beautiful scenery along the way-particularly the mountains and fall foliage.

No funeral services will be held. Instead, a Celebration of her life will be observed on in a few weeks and friends will be notified and are encouraged to drop by and share their favorite memories with her family. Instead of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
