William Rodriguez

September 10, 1924 — April 24, 2015

William Rodriguez was born in New York City on Sept 10,1924, to Alfredo & Mamie Rodriguez, who had immigrated to the United States from Cuba.  He was raised, along with his twin sister Lillian (Tootsie), sisters Alice and Violet & Brother Sonny in Tampa, FL.  Shortly after high school graduation, he entered into the military, where he served proudly in the US Navy as a belly-gunner in a B-24 and was shot down over the Pacific Ocean.  His courageous service in the Navy earned him a Purple Heart.  After separating from the Navy, he returned home to his beloved Florida.  He married Frances Haigwood and they had 5 children Ruby Sherwan, Robecca Hurt, Roxann Rodriguez, Marshall Rodriguez and Mitchell Rodriguez, who all survive him.  He is also survived by his sisters Lillian and Alice, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.  Bill eventually moved to Oklahoma City, where he lived for many years and worked for the US Postal Service.  After his retirement, he returned to Florida.  His family was finally able to convince him, and he moved to Mustang, OK, where he spent the remainder of his life spending time with his children & grandchildren.  He passed away on April 24, 2015 after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 1:00 PM at OK Cremation and Funeral Home Chapel in Oklahoma City.
