Anthony Frank Sando, Jr.

Anthony (Tony) Frank Sando Jr unexpectedly left this world on December 31, 2020. Tony was born in Roswell, New Mexico in August of 1960. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in Alamogordo, New Mexico in 1978 with a history of being a star athlete. After graduating Tony went on to play football on a scholarship at Panhandle University in Oklahoma. In his first season he broke his collarbone, and he made the decision to return to New Mexico and attend New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. During his years there, Tony was a walk on basketball player for the Aggies. Out of his love for basketball, people and his spiritual beliefs he spent three summers traveling to the Philippines, India, and South America with the Athletes in Action basketball team. Tony completed his BA in Physical Education in 1989. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and was deployed to Desert Shield/Storm with the 2nd tanks, 2nd Marines out of Kansas City.

Tony was a fun, kind, reflective intellectual that loved life, meaningful conversations, and people. He was proud to be an athlete, a veteran, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend. He was loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents Rita and Anthony Sando Sr. He is survived by his daughter Megan Sando of Oklahoma City and his son Ian Sando of Tulsa. His brother Wayne Sando and partner Stormy of Alamogordo. His sister Terry Penny and partner Eddy of Alamogordo. His Niece Tara Tyree, partner Andrew Tolley, their family Kirsta, Josiah, Azakiyah, Andrew Jr. and Ezariyah of Alamogordo and Oregon. His Nephew Richard Tyree Jr, partner Jeanette and son Ethan of Silver City, New Mexico.

Tony will be interred at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
