Earlene Denise Taylor

December 11, 1956 — April 26, 2023

Oklahoma City

Our beloved mother, sister, and aunt – Earlene Denise Taylor, aged 66, transitioned on April 26, 2023, in Oklahoma City, OK.  Earlene was born to loving parents, Earl and Inetta Taylor. She grew up in Dayton, Ohio where she graduated from Dunbar High School and went on to earn her associate degree from Southern Ohio College.

Earlene had a loving personality, kind heart, and joyful attitude. She was a true “big sister” and never let any of her siblings forget it!  Whenever she wanted to take charge of something in the family – she would always remind them that, “I’m the big sister,” which was code for: “it’s my way or the highway!

Earlene was a free spirit who was always “on the go.” Over the course of her life, she lived in Ohio, Texas, and Oklahoma – and no matter where she lived, she NEVER met a stranger. To know her was to love her. She had many friends who gave her different “pet” names. To some she was known as “Niecy” or “Momma E” or simply, “Miss Earlene.” But to her nephews, she was affectionately known as “Sister O’Dell,” because of her feisty resemblance to a “make believe” character created by Steve Harvey in his Kings of Comedy act.

Earlene had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone in need. If you were sick, she would come and sit with you, cook your meals, and clean your house. If you needed a few dollars, you could always count on her to give you what she could. If you were her friend and someone “messed” with you – you had no stronger defender than sister O’Dell. Her tongue was sharp, and it cut both ways – she would give you good advice and a good cussing out in the same breath. She was both “book smart” and street savvy and as beautiful on the outside as she was on the inside.

She loved the LORD and could quote scriptures as though she had attended seminary. While she was in Wilshire Nursing Home, she spent many days talking to staff about the Bible. She enjoyed going to church and was a longtime member of One Body in Christ Fellowship Ministries in Elyria, Ohio. When she moved from Ohio, she often talked about how much she missed her “favorite” choir. There are so many good things that can be said about Earlene, but there’s not enough paper or ink to write them all down.  Let’s just say that she was a very special lady with a beautiful soul.

Earlene is preceded in death by her mother and father (Inetta & Earl Taylor), her beloved grandmother (Marguerite Manning), her sisters (Cheryl Taylor and Sandra Taylor), and her nephews (Tyrone Trammell Jr. and Magnus Taylor).

She is survived by her two loving children (Earl D. Taylor and Miracle Brown), and nine grandchildren: Magnus Taylor, Elicia Taylor, Mitchell Taylor, Earlaya Taylor, Washae Taylor, and TeDon Taylor, Anaysha Brown, Sariyah Brown, and Jeremiah Brown;  seven siblings, Tyrone Trammel Sr. (Eunice), Darryl Taylor Sr., Anna Carter, Anita Atwood (Thomas), James Taylor, Monica Lynch (Richard), and Angela Miley; and a host of nephews and nieces including: Craig Dockery (Shealeta), Michael Brown Jr., Preston Brown (Kelly), Darryl Taylor Jr., Jamar Thomas (Julicia), Jamel Belcher, Ryan Childers, Christopher Childers, Richard Lynch, Dijon Taylor, Caleb Taylor, Jeremiah Taylor, Kavon Smith, Karon Smith, Brandon Trammell; Kares Clarke, Kayla Piatt, Myria Cooper, Myrickia Cooper, and Alana Taylor.
