Frank Doyle Martin

June 7, 1963 — April 23, 2023

Oklahoma City

Frank Doyle Martin was born June 7, 1963, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was one of five children of Leo and Anna Martin. Frank grew up in Oklahoma City, attending Villa Teresa, John Carrol elementary, and Bishop McGuinness high school (all Catholic schools). He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity University, San Antonio Texas, with specialty in computer science, which he skillfully used in his vocation as a computer programmer, and he enjoyed and continued up to the end of his life. Frank was a hard worker.

Frank married the love of his life Mary Christian Hunzicker on August 2,1985. He and Mary Christian gave life to three beautiful children, Phillip, Heather, and Samuel. Frank devoted his life to his children and often called his two sons his “Special Boys” and referenced Heather as his “Lovely Young Lady.”

Frank was a private person with a huge heart. He believed in his Catholic faith and Christian values. A man of integrity, very humble, intelligent, and kind. He was passionate about life and fought hard through numerous ailments and health problems, and outlasted medicine when medicine had no more answers. And yet, HE NEVER COMPLAINED.

He never lost the will to win and never gave up. Frank was a cheerleader at Trinity University, which is fitting for Frank, because a cheerleader’s job is to motivate, inspire and get people excited about their team and push them towards excellence his motive was free trips to Denver to see mc!

Frank, you continue to motivate, inspire, and excite people about our lives, and teach us how we should all treat each other through kindness!

We lost a good man, who will be forever loved.

Frank is survived by his three children Phillip, Heather, and Samuel; Mary Christian Martin Hunzicker; Mother Anna Louise Baker Headley; brothers Michael, John, and David (Lori); sister Margo Metheny; Fritz and Marcia Hunzicker; and multitude of nieces and nephews. Frank is preceded in death by his father Leo Joseph Martin and his stepfather Jerry Michael DeWine.

From Heather Martin

Dad was born June 7, 1963. He was one of five children. His brothers are Mike, John and David Martin, and sister Margo Metheny. Dad attended John Carroll,

Bishop McGuinness High School, and Trinity University. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. He worked as a computer programmer almost to the end of his life. Dad was a hard worker. Dad’s hobbies were smoking a cigar, shooting pool, watching sports, spending time in nature and especially spending time with family. He liked old architecture!! He would get mad when the city tore down old buildings instead of renovating the structures. He liked cars and motorcycles. Dad’s favorite color was green. Dad liked yard work…. sometimes! He wasn’t much of an animal person but tolerated all my family pets. Family was important to him. He would spend time with my autistic brothers, Phillip, and Samuel. I am the middle child, and my name is Heather Martin. Dad grew up Roman Catholic. But when I was a kid, he didn’t have much interest in going to mass unless I brought it up, because he did not want to get up early. We were always late to mass. He believed in the principles of Christianity!! He would stop and help people with a flat tire or if they were broken down on the side of the road. Dad fought hard for his life at the end with numerous health problems. He was very optimistic through all the struggles.

And graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX with a B.S. in computer science on May 11, 1985, which he skillfully used in his vocation as a computer programmer. He was an accomplished athlete lettering in football in high school.

Frank was a private person with a huge heart. A man of integrity, very humble, intelligent, and kind. Frank possessed many such qualities of character. You could say he enjoyed simple pleasures of life, shooting a game of pool, smoking his cigars, and hanging out with his friends, Greg B, Bill F, Marty H, just mentioning a few of many! But he always put his family first. The world lost a good man, and he will be sorely missed. But forever remembered in high esteem. You fought the good fight and outlasted medicine when they had no more answers. You are one tuff hombre. Go with God. We will meet in the afterlife. God Bless.

From Frank’s friends:

Frank was a fighter, but fighter is the wrong word. Fighter implies that Frank was mean, but Frank didn’t have a mean bone in his body. Passionate is a better way to describe Frank.

First and foremost, he was passionate about his children. His children were the most important thing in his life. Frank, like most fathers, loved his children, and like fathers everywhere, children can present challenges. Fathers all know children can push our limits with our patience. This is where Frank excelled. Frank taught us through his actions, lessons that ALL of us, especially fathers, can learn from. He inspired us to be patient, calm and a teacher to our children, but most of all, inspired us with his unwavering love for his children, and his family.

Passionate about LIFE!  He never lost the will to win and never gave up. Even looking back to high school when Frank played football. Frank may not have been the biggest guy on the field, but he was the hardest worker we ever knew and ALWAYS gave 110%. If you were playing (or even practicing) against him, you better bring your A-game, because Frank was bringing his. Ask anyone he played pool against! They’ll tell you how tenacious Frank could be on the “billiards court.” Not sure how many times he posted photos of him either “running the table” or sinking the 8-ball on the break!

That is also how Frank approached life itself. He never gave up, never complained (even though he was in unimaginable pain towards the end), and always gave 110%. Frank was a cheerleader at Trinity University, which is fitting for Frank, because a cheerleader’s job is to motivate, inspire and get people excited about their team and push them towards excellence.

Frank, you continue to motivate, inspire, and excite people about our lives, and teach us how we should all treat each other through kindness! We love and will miss you Franko!

From Fritz Hunzicker:

Frank was a fine human being! He was a wonderful father and friend! The world is a better place for Frank having passed through it! He was a cherished member of our family, and we will greatly miss him!

From Mary Christian Hunzicker:

I’ve known and loved frank for 53 of my 60 years. We went to John Carroll together and we each have 5 kids in our families.

We were married on August 2,1985 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church .

Frank was a computer programmer at the State of Oklahoma Supreme Court of Appeals and I worked as an RN, BSN on adolescent and newborn units.

We have 3 wonderful kids!: Phillip 32, Heather 30, and Samuel 28. Frank was a great daddy! He loved cooking big weekend breakfasts for the kids. He absolutely adored our children!

And going to the “farm” in Binger, Oklahoma. He was a very romantic gentleman. He often would surprise me with flowers. He made me a wood jewelry box with my name on top. It had pink satin inside and different little compartments of all sizes. And he did the same in my “our” closet! Frank had this skill. He could very neatly pack 5 suitcases into one small carryon! That’s how he traveled in his beetle bop. We shared a love for Victorian houses, furniture, antiques, and restoring old houses, and touring them. Our house in Heritage Hills was on the tour twice to show renovations. We enjoyed working in our yard together. After doing our backyard, Frank gathered 2 paper grocery bags full of pecans from our trees. He left them out on the back porch. The next morning he was furious…lol…the squirrels did not leave him a single pecan! Frank Doyle Martin, you were one very interesting character and you were always the love of my life. I’m going to miss you something terrible!

His last words were, “I love you. “

Godspeed sweet Frank!

Wait for us at the Pearly Gates, Frank.

Always yours,

Mary Christian
