Harry Samuel Mink

May 9, 1939 — December 4, 2021

Oklahoma City

Harry Samuel Mink was born May 9th, 1939, in Monticello, Alabama to Harry Mink & Iva Mink (Petty). He was called home to be with the Lord Saturday December 4th, 2021, in peace at Emerald Care Center Midwest. He was 82 years young.

Harry joined the catholic church as a young adult and attended Blessed Martin Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. After that Harry attended St. Joseph of Oklahoma City and later at St. Anthony Chapel of Oklahoma City where he was a devoted member regularly involved and helping the priest administer communion. Harry's final church home was Corpus Christi of Oklahoma City.

Harry joined the Air Force on December 12, 1961, where he served as an Airman Third Class until he was honorably discharged on May 3, 1963. While in the Air Force Harry met his first wife; Minnie Pearl Rutledge and were blessed with Harry's first son; Andre in 1963. After their union dissolved, Harry met his second wife Mary Alice Collins in 1966 while he was working at a local grocery store and she a nursing aid at St. Anthony Hospital. Shortly after they welcome their only child, Dewayne in 1968 and wed on April 29, 1969. Harry and Mary would continue their union for the next 52 years.

After Harry's second marriage and leaving the grocery store, Harry started working for Demco; a local warehouse as a forklift driver for several years until an unfortunate on the job accident forced him into early retirement. Retirement didn't slow Harry down. While retired, Harry picked up many interests as he was a free thinker and extremely good with his hands. Some of those interests included being an inventor and designer, doing very detailed wood carvings, becoming an excellent cook, with his specialty cooking Bar-B-Q and his infamous BBQ watermelon. Harry was also a great handyman and worked on multiple projects like roofing, fence mending, plumbing and other household work for his own personal home and outside work as well. Harry also liked to collect and work on vintage cars with his favorite being Mercedes Benz as he owned several over the years. Harry was also big on motivational speaking and had his own radio talk show on the weekends for a short period of time. He listened to a lot of motivational tapes and read hundreds empowering self-help books to maximize one's full potential in health, creativity, wealth, and spiritual well-being. Harry also liked to debate on various subjects and issues and would regularly take opposing sides to challenge the status quo of popular thinking.

Harry had an extremely strong faith as he read his Bible daily as a continuance of nourishing his faith and enjoyed discussing scriptures and passages with others. Even in his final days Harry's faith never wavered as he prayed constantly and read his Bible as much as possible until reading was no longer possible. Harry always put his trust and faith in the Lord, and it was through that trust and faith that guided Harry through his final days until he was called home. Harry was a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, leader, and servant and will be missed dearly by all.
