James Lee Haws

James Lee Haws, longtime Maud and Pottawatomie County resident, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021 at his residence in Shawnee at the age of 70.

James was born July 9, 1951 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Buddy Lewis Haws and Betty Jean (Walker) Haws. He attended Maud Public Schools and Seminole Junior College. James married Rebecca Kay (Welch) on December 23, 1970 in Maud. They resided in Maud for many years before moving to Shawnee.

James served in the US Army from 1971 – 1973 and received his honorable discharge as an E-4 Specialist. James was the former Mayor and City Councilman at Maud for several years. He retired from Maud Volunteer Fire Department with 20 years of service. James retired from Premium Beers as a Salesman after many years of service. He loved camping with his family, riding motorcycles with the boys, loved taking road trips, was a “casino connoisseur” and loved watching baby girl play softball.

Surviving are his wife of over 50 years, Rebecca of the home; sons, Brian Haws and wife Beth of Bowlegs, Jeff Haws of Reno, NV, daughter-in-law, Elaina Haws of Paden; bonus son, Chris Humphries and his wife Faith of Spring Mount, NJ; grandchildren, Destinie and Nathan Ingram of Wynnewood, Garrett and Kendra Haws of Paden, Wyatt Haws of Paden; great-grandchildren, Paisley Ingram of Wynnewood, Bentley Hibler of Choctaw and Oaklee Jean Haws of Paden; sisters, Gayla Cotterman and husband Jon of Maud, Sherry Stewart of Maud, Gloria Stalnaker and husband Grady of Maud, Debbie Blackwell of Maud; sisters-in-law, Ruth Welch of Maud, Nori Welch of Celeste, TX, Jonnie Welch of Victoria, TX, Naomi Sandavol and Rudy of New Mexico; several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Preceding James in death are his parents, Buddy and Betty Haws; mother and father-in-law, OJ and Claudia Welch; brothers-in-law, Roy Hale, Danny Johnson, Ray Blackwell, Don Stewart, Verle Welch and Jessie Welch and sister-in-law, Eunice Hays.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Maud with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Honorary bearers will be Jon Cotterman, Grady Stalnaker, Donnie Brooks, Garrett Haws, Wyatt Haws, Nathan Ingram, Brandon Cleary, Jackie Gamble, Jeremiah Carter, David Sellers, Neil Hale, Terry Hale, Jerry Stewart, Buddy Blackwell and Connor Pellman.
