John “Johnboy” P. Starns, longtime Maud resident, passed away early Thursday morning, May 27, 2021 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Seminole on Wednesday, May 26. He was 63.

John was born March 3, 1958 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Jimmy L. and Johnita L. (Barnes) Starns.  He attended Seminole Public School up to his freshman year and then graduated from New Lima High School. John worked at Sonic in Seminole and later as an orderly at Wetumka General Hospital. John served in the US Navy. He was a member of the Pipeliners Local Union 798 for several years. John later worked as a roughneck in the greater area oilfields for many years. He lived in Birmingham, Alabama for some time and later returned to Seminole County and worked as a heavy equipment operator. John was working at O’Daniels Mud Pit at the time of his passing.

John led a very colorful life in his younger days. He had mellowed with age some. John loved his dog, “Chico” and his bike. He would often say “this is my freedom when I am on my bike away from everything”. He was living his life and enjoying it for the last several years and would travel off-beaten paths and loved eating good food. Some of his favorite eating places where The Red Rooster in Maud and Hog’s Barbeque in Seminole where he was headed when he took his last ride.

John will be missed by all and his acts of kindness were never known until his death. Just look up to see those coins fall from Heaven!

The family would like to thank all the people who stopped to help at the accident including the three women and one man.

Survivors include his sons and granddaughter, Bodhi Starns and Rance Starns and granddaughter Dublin Allison Everly Starns, all of Ada; sister, Jimilu Starns of Shawnee; special friends, Ricky Pemberton of Konawa, Gayla Pemberton of Eufaula and Susan Harris of Ada; uncle, Jim Barnes and wife Deborah of Hoover, Alabama; aunts, Mary Jo Rains and Dean Starns of Ada and a host of cousins and other family and dear friends that may not be blood but were considered family.
