John Terry Bado

December 3, 1947 — February 2, 2021

Oklahoma City

John Terry Bado, loving husband and father of four, went home to the Lord on February 2, 2021, surrounded by his family. John was born December 3, 1947, in Oklahoma City to John T. Bado and Dorthy Jean Bado (Terry). After traveling around the country for work, the young family settled in Oklahoma City, where John served as a bat boy for the Oklahoma City ‘89ers before graduating from NW Classen High School in 1966, where he was on the football and track teams. He attended Baylor University on a track scholarship, graduating from Baylor Law School and passing both the Oklahoma and Texas bar exams in Feb. 1971.  In May 1970 he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Bobbie) K. Arentz, with whom he raised two daughters, Makena, and Moorea, and two sons, John and Edward.

John and Barbara were married 50 years, from his time at Baylor through his time as a Captain in the US Army JAG Corps, during which he was stationed in Columbia, South Carolina, Taipei, Taiwan and at the Pentagon in Washington DC, during which he received a master’s in law from Georgetown University in 1976, before he left the army as a Major in 1979 and moved back to the Oklahoma City area to be closer to family.

John spent his legal career serving others and honoring God. John and Barbara started Bado & Bado Law Firm in January 1981, focusing on oil and gas before moving into adoption by the late 1980s.  After having adopted his own children, John wanted to be a part of the process and help both adoptive and birth parents, and he found great joy in his work to help place hundreds of children during his career.  He was known for upholding the highest standards of the legal profession and helped moderate Oklahoma Bar continuing education classes on adoption. He enjoyed visiting Cuchara, Colorado and sharing his condo there with friends and strangers so they could share in his love of the wildlife and natural beauty of eastern Colorado. He loved to help and give to others, and never limited his encouragement or assistance to anyone regardless race, income, language, family background, sex, or handicap.

John’s true delight was in his family, and he is survived by his wife Barbara (Bobbie), daughters Makena K. Bado (Lonna Odle), Moorea Jean Bado-Lancaster (Matt Lancaster), sons John Thomas Bado and Edward Joseph Bado, grandchildren Aaden Bado and Landry Bado, his sister-in-law Betty Jean Wilmoth, his niece, nephew, numerous cousins and all their families.

The funeral will also be live streamed at youtube.com/hendersonhills.
