Leo Vernon Stephens, Jr.

October 27, 1934 — May 23, 2020

Wewoka

Leo Vernon Stephens Jr. was born October 27th, 1934 in Wewoka, Oklahoma and went home to be with his Heavenly Father and a host of others on May 23, 2020 in Wewoka.

Leo graduated from Wewoka High School in 1952. After graduating he went to Colorado Springs, Colorado with one of his teachers and a buddy to attend college. After two weeks of college, he changed his plans and decided to go to work. He worked in military bunkers counting ammunition until the age of 18.

Leo then went to work at CF&I Steel Mill in Pueblo, Colorado. Leo also at the time married his true love, Joletta Peck. They were married for 65 years before Joletta passed two years ago. They had three children: Mark Ray, Joni Lyn and Matthew Leo Stephens.

Leo and Joletta raised their children in Colorado and California. He continued working at CF&I Steel Mill growing into a Management position until his retirement at age 48.

After retirement he and Joletta moved back to Wewoka, Oklahoma to enjoy their family, friends and the community he loved. Leo’s three children gave him seven grandchildren which he loved dearly and would travel all over to pick them up and spend the summers with him.

Leo and Joletta taught their children great lessons of life, love and mostly family. Leo was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren.

Leo gave his family everything he could and never asked for anything in return. He was a great man, father, grandfather, friend and our hero. He will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joletta Fern Peck Stephens; his sister, Betty Jo Stephens Cunningham; his mother, Ida Mae Gray Stephens; his father, Leo Vernon Stephens and many others.

The family is planning a celebration of life later in the summer to honor his wonderful life.

Arrangements are with OK Cremation and Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
