Oklahoma City

God blessed this world and the union of Major, Sr. and Emma Jean Levingston-Mathenia with the birth of their son, Major Levingston-Mathenia, Jr. on February 18, 1941. He was the first son and the second of 13 living children born of their union. Major, Jr. was preceded in death by both parents; mother Emma Jean (Prince) Hibler, father Major Levingston, Sr., and sister, Wanda Dennis.

On Thursday, April 16, 2020 Major, Jr. was escorted home to Heaven to lay his burdens down and rejoice in the presence of his God and his savior Jesus Christ. His family and friends take comfort in knowing he will continue to watch over them as a Guardian Angel from on high.

LIFE REFLECTIONS

Major attended Douglass High School in Oklahoma City, OK where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Louis Etta Perry in 1960. Their 59 year union was blessed with two children; daughter Tonya and son, Juan Ray.

Major, Jr., fondly known as “Papa Smurf”, was a generous, kind, and reliable man who used his strength, his faith in the Lord, and his ability to see and speak to one’s soul to protect and guide not only his wife and children but his siblings and many others throughout his life. He was always willing to help others help themselves. He would take you in when you fell and help you stand on your own. He was a wonderful loving son, a brother like no other, an unforgettable cousin, and a caring Uncle to so many nieces and nephews. As a husband, he was always a King to his Queen; making sure she was always taken care of and put first. The best father in the universe to his two children; he provided wisdom, love, a strong work ethic, and encouraged them both to be excellent in all things. He was their super hero, their protector, their rock. He was a proud grandfather who rejoiced in his continuing legacy. He was tickled pink to be a great-granddaddy. He had a smile that lit up a room and his laughter gave all in his presence joy. He was a master baker, king domino player, and a great fisherman. He loved Cadillacs, the Dallas Cowboys, country music, and Koolaid so sweet it would cross the eyes of us mere mortals. Throughout his life, Major worked as a top-notch baker for Val Gene’s restaurants, Dunkin Donuts, Casady Private School, Ingrid’s Kitchen, and Sweet Memories Bakery where he was highly regarded for his baking skills and ability to pass on his knowledge to those who worked with him. His cookies and cakes were known and wanted throughout the city and state.

He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Louis Etta Levingston; daughter, Tonya L. Levingston-Mathenia; and son and daughter-in-law, Juan Ray and Tamara Levingston all still living in Oklahoma City. He is also survived by four grandchildren; grand-daughters, Jordan Levingston and Jada Glaze, grand-sons, Taylor Levingston (Laura), and Taylon Golston; two great-grandchildren; Jullien and Marlowe; five sisters, Wilma and Kay, of Pittsburg, CA, Gladys, Shirley, and Net-Hetep, all of Oklahoma City; six brothers, Ocie (Goyi) of Spain, Ray Jr, (Willie Jean) of Pittsburg, CA, Bobbie (Jessica), Carl Dean (Roxanne), Lawrence and Charles, all of Oklahoma City; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He also left behind his church family of Plainview Baptist Church where he served as President of The Brotherhood, a member of The Brotherhood Choir, and as a Deacon under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Smith.
