Marjorie "Marti" Ann (Schoenefeld) Wilson

February 22, 1948 — February 13, 2021

Oklahoma City

Marjorie “Marti” Ann Wilson was born February 22, 1948 in Corning, New York to Roger and Marjorie (Bablo) Schoenefeld. She passed away February 13, 2021 in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 72.

Marti was a pioneer of sorts for women, working in a dominant man’s field of cable pulling and networking in the industry of telecommunications. In her early 20’s she worked with her ex-husband Barker, in their self-owned business, doing all the jobs that he could do. She was known for having an excellent memory, remembering all the locations of wires and cables and the importance of each one. She continued in the field, changing jobs to Southwestern Bell Company in the late 1960’s. Marti became one of the first women to be an actual linewoman climbing cable poles just like her peers in the industry. She also worked there as central office cabler. Moving on, she was then employed at Chickasaw Telecom as a cabler and was trusted to be a cabler on Air Force One. Working on the construction of the President’s airplane was not a job trusted to just anyone. Her intelligence and knowledge of the business landed her the coveted job of working on the aircraft of all aircrafts. Marti’s last job before retiring was Autocad at the University of Oklahoma as a network administrator.

Marti enjoyed many hobbies as well. They included sewing, genealogy, and most of all, cooking. In fact, one of her employment offices dedicated a room and space for “Chef Marti” as she was called, to set up her food for them to enjoy. She loved the emails and feedback from her coworkers praising her food and asking for the recipes.

During her career at OU she met her husband Grant while he was visiting a coworker. She was sure to make him think of only “one girl” on Valentine’s Day by deciding to marry him on the lover’s holiday in 2014 and it was made official in Las Vegas by her choice using the local Justice of The Peace.

Marti was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Her husband, Grant Wilson of the home survives her, along with three sisters and a host of other family and friends.
