Rowena Suzanne (Hill) Wilson

October 5, 1941 — November 15, 2019

Rowena Suzanne “Suzy” Wilson, age 78 of Norman, passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at home surrounded by family. Suzy was born October 5, 1941 in Duncan, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of 4 daughters born to Ben Simmons Hill and Rowena Rebecca (Branson) Hill.  She grew up in Duncan, graduating high school in 1959.

After high school Suzy went to Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio for 1 year. She decided she didn’t like being so far from home, so returned to attend the University of Oklahoma. She was introduced to Wallace “Bud” Wilson, a fellow student also from Duncan, when her sister offered Suzy’s chauffer services for weekend visits home. These rides started the beginning of a lifelong love and commitment. They were married on September 2, 1961 in Duncan and made their home in Norman, where they continued to reside for their lives. They shared almost 50 years of marriage before Bud’s death in 2011.

Suzy spent her life caring for not only her own 8 children and grandchildren, but all their friends and any person she felt needed taking in.  She was the scout leader, PTA mom, head of concessions stand for the Norman Optimist Club, chauffer for all sports teams or kid’s activities, and all-around caregiver. She always had a bit of wisdom to share, a gentle pat on the arm, and a smile and laugh that lit up the room.

Suzy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bud Wilson, Sister Mary Alice Kratz, sons Garry Wilson & Glenn Wilson, granddaughters Morgan Peacock & Saleda Wilson, and great grandson Ryder Wilson.

She is survived by sisters Judith Dickhout (Robert) and Jane Till; son Eric Wilson (Sarah Boehme) of Norman; daughters Gretchen Loken (Bill) of Las Vegas, NV; Margaret Greer (Joel) of Wellford, SC; Bobbie Huff (James Gaither) of Duncan, OK: Jennifer Wilson (Karate Sykes) of Norman; and Sarah Gonzales (Mike) of San Antonio, TX; 21 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren with 2 on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and adopted children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff of Valir Hospice – especially Heather Kaighn Thomason, Carrie Dawson, Rita Blankenship, Amie Heim and Miles Knutson for their exceptional care and making her remaining days as peaceful and fulfilling as she wanted them to be.

Also, an extra thanks to Virginia Fulton, for always providing friendship, support and advice an all matters.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mary Abbott House or The American Cancer Society.
