Stanley Ellious Burgess

April 15, 1955 — August 1, 2019

Stanley E. Burgess “Chico” was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on April 15, 1955 to Estella M. Burgess and Dan Epps. He departed this life on August 1, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He attended Lincoln Elementary school; from a young age Stan was infatuated with anything military especially the Army. Stan often played “Army” with the neighborhood children. He would be the Sergeant, directing the other children in how best to bet the “enemy”. To assist in beating the “enemy” Stan became an expert at making and setting booby traps. Stan graduated from Chickasha High School in 1973, where he played snare drum in the band; also was a member of the basketball and baseball teams during his youth. Immediately after graduating high school; Stan enlisted in the Army and married Devenua Johnson, to this union four children were born. He entered a long-term relationship with Elaina Fennell to this union two children were born. Upon his marriage to Florine Galberth he became stepfather to two sons and became a father for the last time.  Stan later married Charlotte Catto.  Stan was given the nickname Chico by his grandson. After leaving the military Stan pursued several employment opportunities such as serving for several years as the manager of Shadow Wood Apts., along with owning his own businesses. Stan specialized in the writing of grants that implemented changes to his community such as: water and sludge systems, weatherization of senior citizens homes, and revitalization of Bullock Memorial Center. Stan received his Bachelor of Science in 1991 from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.  As an adult, Stan accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, became a member of New Hope Baptist Church. The months preceding his death he worshiped at the Southside Nursing Home Chapel and at his bedside when unable to attend services.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, stepfather Ben Blunt, grandfathers, and grandmothers.

Stan is survived by his children: Alton Burgess, Toby (Shannon) Burgess, Samaries Burgess, Vince  Burgess, Lanston Fennell, Avery (Jenna) Fennell, Gabrielle Burgess, stepchildren Chauncey Galberth and Leland Galberth along with his mother Estella Moore.  Stan was Big Brother to siblings: Boris Moore, Doris (Juan) Ornelas, Ryland (Johnny) Moore, Kent Moore, Curtis (Zoe) Blunt, and Mishelle Blunt.  Others left to cherish memories of Stan are a host of grandchildren (27), great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
