Thomas "T-Bone" Grant Botich

February 1, 1961 — August 25, 2021

Oklahoma City

Thomas Grant Botich passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 25, 2021, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Tom was 60 years old.

Thomas Botich was born on February 1, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois to John and Gladys Botich. He was the third born and last son and child of John George and Gladys Marie Botich.

Thomas grew up in Chicago, Illinois with his two older siblings, his sister (Pauline) and his older brother (Michael). Thomas’s father and father’s side of the family immigrated from the Isle of Dalmatia (currently Croatia), where they were the last fluent-speaking immigrants of the language. He was surrounded by Croatian culture before joining the Navy at the age of 18 for four years of service on board USS Enterprise as a petty officer, where he earned his nickname “T-Bone” from his love for steak dinners. After getting out of the Navy in 1982, Tom pursued many interests before moving back home to Chicago and starting a career as a roofer. He had one true love during his life but never married.

As a roofer, he traveled through many states and worked in California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. He lived between Wisconsin and Illinois until he retired to Oklahoma City, where he spent the rest of his life surrounded by his loved ones.

While the life and career of “T-Bone” is a long and colorful one, it is his love of family that will be remembered most fondly by those he left behind. Tommy loved many things in life, including Socko the African Grey bird, whom he took everywhere- even jail! His two cats, who never left home without their favorite human friend, were significant parts of his daily routine. There wasn’t any animal Tom would turn away and not rescue or a person Tom wouldn’t give his last dime to in this world. He was a true humanitarian in every sense of the word.

Tommy was beloved figure in the family because of his kindness and generosity. Although he had no children, he always made time to visit us, kids, when we were out-of-town, taking us swimming or fishing with him whenever possible. Uncle Tommy will always be remembered as the brotherly uncle with a sweet tooth and an abundance of amusing stories His humor was so infectious that it could leave you in stitches long after he left your side. We will miss playing jeopardy with him at 3:30 and all our inside jokes, including his hilarious dark sense of humor that could get us all in trouble! A true family man, he loved his nieces and nephews just as much as their parents.

If you knew Tom, he was a classic bachelor who loved his beer and the outdoors. His final wish before passing away was to have his ashes spread in Sedona, Arizona. He spent a significant amount of time with family members in Arizona and his niece, Amy, when she resided in Sedona, Arizona in the VOC (Village of Oak Creek), enjoying the views of Red Rocks and Mexican food for days on end. If there were any common themes throughout Tom’s life, it would be a good penny slot machine in Las Vegas, Ho-Chunk Casino with Ducko, and the Chicago Bears. Golfing with friends and family with a Coleman cooler full of Keystone Beers always surrounding him and green fairways underfoot! Furthermore, blasting his favorite song from Aerosmith’s Classic Album “Pump” (What it Takes) playing on his boombox to the last toss of the dice…

All of Thomas’s friends and family members will miss Thomas significantly.

Thomas Botich was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Botich, and his brother, Michael Botich.

Thomas Botich is survived by his siter, Pauline Beers (Philip); nieces Amy Beers and Alicia Barrett, nephews, Matthew Beers, Christopher (Dawn) Beers, Michael (Monet) Beers, great-nieces and nephews, Eric Vullo, Angelica Beers, Alexander Beers, Ivan Beers, Liberty Beers, Wyatt Beers, and Giana Vullo.

Thomas Botich is also survived by his friends, Kevin Hennis, Daniel Steele, David David, and the Jimenez family.

Thomas Botich’s family will be holding a small, private memorial in Sedona, Arizona for immediate relatives only. His last wish was the donations go to the Oklahoma City Humane Society in place of flowers.

The Beers family would like to thank OK Cremation & Funeral Home for all their help and support during this difficult time.

A special thanks to Dr. Timothy Vavricka, MD, for being a tremendous and compassionate surgeon who always helped Tommy throughout his long medical journey.

For all their generosity to both my uncles, the Jimenez Family was a second family to both Tommy and Mike Botich.

Furthermore, David David, for always being there for Tommy; you define what a genuine friendship between two neighbors means.
