Wesley Grove Ginder

July 14, 1949 — June 28, 2019

Wesley Grove Ginder, Oklahoma City resident, passed away June 28, 2019 at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 69.

He was born July 14, 1949 in Gary, Indiana to Earl Wesley and Margaret Joanne (Summers). Wesley graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1967. He later received a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University. Wesley was drafted into the US Army on June 9, 1970 and trained at Fort Polk, LA. He served as an Army Medic as he was a conscientious objector. He received an honorable discharge on January 4, 1972.

Wesley later received his Masters of Public Health Administration from Indiana University-Purdue University. He worked for Dearborn County Public Health Department for several years. He later moved to St. Louis, MO in 1982 and started a career in teaching.

Wesley married Carolyn Skerbek in 1995 and they enjoyed attending many music festivals together until her passing in 2011. Wesley moved to Oklahoma City in 2017 to be close to his mother before her passing. He traveled to Cancun in January 2019 for the trip of his lifetime.

Throughout Wesley’s life, he was an advocate for civil rights and vigorously supported the causes of veterans and teachers. He was a hippie, a dead head and you never saw him without something tie-dyed on. He inspired many, entertained plenty and pretty much loved by all.

Wesley is survived by his daughter, Joanne Vishino of St. Louis, MO and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Wesley Ginder and his mother, Margaret Joanne Stout.
