Wilfred James "Jim" Brooks, Sr.

On Friday March 12, 2021, Wilfred James “Jim” Brooks Sr., at the age of 88, passed from this world.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 pm March 20, 2021 at Sooner East Church of Christ in Oklahoma City.

Jim was born June 20, 1932, in Bay City, Texas to H.C. and Clarice Brooks.  He was the oldest of 4 children.  After high school graduation, he worked at Kelly Air Force Base as a Radio Repairman Helper.  Then he joined the Navy and served as an airplane electrician.  While in the Navy he received a National Defense service medal. After leaving the Navy, Jim went to Ozark Christian College.  While attending college, he visited his friend Herb Pinney’s family, where he met Herb’s youngest sister Bonnie Pinney. Jim and Bonnie were married June 30, 1962.  Once, before they married, Jim hitchhiked 900 miles just to take Bonnie to a Valentine Dance.

Jim worked as an aircraft electrician for LTV.   After that he worked in various jobs as an auto mechanic.  He spent many years with Weatherford Junior College as a maintenance and air conditioning technician.  After retiring he found he missed working, so he decided to work part time for Walmart until finally retiring again at age 85.

While he and Bonnie lived in Weatherford, Texas, they were longtime members at Hillcrest Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for many years.  After moving to Oklahoma, he and Bonnie enjoyed being members at Sooner East Church of Christ.

He loved working with his hands and always had multiple building projects around the house under way.  He enjoyed fixing things, welding, and carpentry. He had a green thumb and was always growing plants from cuttings and seeds.

Jim is preceded in his death by parents, H.C. and Clarice Brooks; brother, John Brooks; sister, Jean Smith; and his oldest son, Billy.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Brooks; brother Larry Brooks and his wife Alice; sons Jerry Brooks; Gary Brooks and his wife Denise; Mark Brooks and his wife Autumn; and Lynn Brooks; daughters Becky Sandefur and her husband Joel; Debbie Lloyd and her husband Brian; and Christi Rose.  He is also survived by his grandchildren; Casey Hoffman and his wife Cherokee; Monte Brooks; Ryan Brooks; Ky Sandefur; AnnMarie Lundberg and her husband Kyle; Ashley Daniel and her husband Cody; Danielle Rose; Elizabeth Lloyd; Dakota Brooks; Alan Lloyd; Shelby Brooks; Megan Brooks; Peter Lloyd; Alyssa Brooks; and Zachary Rose; 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Donna Ward and her husband Lawrence; brother-in-law Herb Pinney; sister-in-law Nancy Kendall and her husband Clyde; sister-in-law Ann Cloud and her husband John; and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
